How can our dentist in Waterlooville help in an emergency?

Unfortunately, sometimes accidents happen with your teeth, and you might need an emergency dentist in Waterlooville. Here at Cowplain Dental Practice, we are proud to offer our emergency service to help you if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need urgent dental care.

What is a dental emergency?

There are a few reasons why you may need to contact us for an emergency appointment. It can be very painful being in these situations, and we will do everything we can to help you in the moment.

Toothache

This is one of the more common reasons for someone to come in for an emergency appointment with our dentist in Waterlooville. Sometimes, toothache can be unbearably painful, and it can mean that there are deeper issues going on with your teeth, so it’s important to contact us as soon as possible if the pain becomes too much.

Toothache can be caused by an array of things, such as damage, infection or gum disease. If it’s left too long, it can spread and cause further problems for your mouth. This is why we recommend that if you have been experiencing extreme toothache for more than 48 hours, you should contact us for an emergency appointment.

When you come in for an emergency appointment with us because of a toothache, the first thing we will do is make you feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. We will relieve your pain as much as we can at the start to minimise discomfort throughout. Our dentist in Waterlooville will then examine your mouth to see if we can find an obvious cause for the pain. If we can, then further scans will be taken to try and determine the exact problem. If and when we find the root of the problem, we will create a treatment plan with you to give you ongoing help if needed.

Knocked out tooth

Another reason that may cause you to need an emergency appointment is if you have had a tooth knocked out. If your tooth gets knocked out and you don’t see us as soon as possible, it could potentially cause damage to the surrounding teeth and gums.

Once you arrive at our practice for your emergency appointment, what we can do depends on whether you have salvaged the tooth, and what condition it is in. If you have managed to save the tooth, and it is in a good enough condition, we may be able to reattach it there and then. If we can’t reattach the tooth, or you simply couldn’t save it, we will make sure there are no bits of tooth left in the area and clean it to reduce the risk of infection. We may then give you some options for replacing it in the future, such as getting a dental implant.

Chipped or broken tooth

If your tooth has been damaged, such as with a chip, it is important that you come and see our emergency dentist in Waterlooville as soon as possible. This is because your tooth and surrounding teeth could be at risk of infection and further damage. Depending on the type of damage your tooth has sustained, we may be able to renew it with a filling, which we will always try to do first to save your tooth. If we think it can’t be saved, we may need to extract it to prevent further problems from arising.
